Doing Good

Sometimes there is so much to do that we forget.
Other times, we are so busy doing for others, that we lose sight of those closest to us.
I get no satisfaction from being rude or even, indifferent, to strangers.
When there is a thing, no matter how small, that I can do, I do it.
Letting a car in.
Opening a door.
Picking up a child's dropped toy.
Smiling.

These are things anyone can do.
Society has gotten so caught up in privacy that we have forgotten human kindness.

If someone gets hurt, we pretend we don't notice.
We don't want to be involved. It is none of our business.
Guess what? It is our business.

That is why the earth is covered with people.
That is how we have survived.

We are beginning to rely on technology for all of our social needs.

To avoid human interaction at all cost.

Humans, stepping out of themselves, and out of their comfort zones is what lead us to these luxuries.

The luxury of having a burning question pop up in your head and not having to wait till business hours to go to the library and do research to come up with an answer.

The luxury of going to bed early and still being able to watch the newest episode of your favorite show at your convenience.

The luxury of craving popcorn and then having some freshly popped and in your mouth in less that 3 minutes.
Or a baked potato in 5 minutes!

We take this stuff for granted. The technology is here. It isn't going anywhere. We are spoiled.

But is a "LIKE" on Facebook the same as a hug in real life?

There is nothing like being pleasantly surprised by a complete stranger doing exactly what you never expected them to do. What is even better is being the person doing the unexpected kindness.

It doesn't cost money or time. All you need to do is be aware of what is going on around you. Look up from your phone. There is someone who is near you, in real life, that can use a hand. That next LOL text can wait, cuz you know you didn't actually laugh out loud. When was the last time you shared a real out loud laugh with a complete stranger? Just by making eye contact (it is when you both see each other at the exact same time) and noticing something absurd or cute.

Take some time to do something different.
Do something good.
